How to Apply

WVU has a rolling admissions policy, which means that students should receive a decision a few weeks after the school receives his/her application and required materials.

Complete the information on the Undergraduate Application Form and include the non-refundable fee ($30 in-state; $60 out-of-state; $60 international).

Send official transcripts of your previous schoolwork to WVU. You can send these with your application or have your high school send them separately. Also send official transcripts of any college work you have completed. All applications and supporting materials should be forwarded to:

Office of Admissions and Records
West Virginia University
PO Box 6009
Morgantown WV 26506-6009
USA

Student must submit an official high school transcript and proof of measles and rubella immunization. More information can be found at How to Apply on WVU's main page.

University Admission Requirements:

To be considered for freshman admission, a student must successfully complete the following high school credits:

4 units of English (including grammar, composition, and literature)
3 units of social studies (including U.S. History)
3 units of college preparatory mathematics (Algebra I and II and Plane Geometry)
3 units of science (Two of the three units must be a laboratory science. At least two units from Coordinated and Thematic Science 10, Biology, Chemistry, Physics and other courses with a strong laboratory science orientation)

It is strongly recommended that you complete two units of a foreign language.
Suggested electives are computer science, fine arts, and humanities.

Admission to West Virginia University is based on a combination of high school grade-point average and ACT or SAT scores. Each application is reviewed individually by a member of the admissions staff. Don't forget - all applications must be accompanied by an official transcript.

West Virginia residents must have at least a 2.0 grade-point average and either a composite ACT score of 19 or a combined SAT score of 910 to be considered for admission.

Nonresidents must have a 2.25 grade-point average and either an ACT composite score of 20 or a total SAT score of 950.

Transfers from Other Accredited Institutions

To be considered for transfer admissions, students must submit a complete Application for undergraduate admission and arrange for an official transcript of all college work attempted to be sent to the Office of Admissions and Records (transcripts are to be sent directly from registrars' offices). These transcripts must cover all subjects taken after a student's application to WVU. If student has fewer than 29 transferable credit hours, he/she will be ranked as a freshman; student must submit ACT or SAT scores and a high school transcript as a part of his/her application. The university evaluates transferable credit hours after the receipt of complete official transcripts and admission to WVU. All application material must be received by August 1 for fall admission and December 1 for spring admission.

If a student is transfering more than 58 semester hours, he/she meets the entrance requirements for the specific program he/she wishes to enter. Individual consideration is given to a limited number of students with more than 58 transferable hours who do not meet specific program requirements.

Credits and grades for college-level courses completed at any accredited institutions in the West Virginia state system of higher education may be transferable toward a bachelor's degree. For institutions outside of the West Virginia system, only credits, not grades, are transferable for college-level courses passed with grade of D or higher.

The Eberly College of Arts and Sciences has the following requirements:
Minimal requirements for regular admission to degree programs are completion of 30 to 58 hours of course credit, a 2.00 overall grade-point average, and a 2.00 grade-point average in courses already completed in the discipline of the major; however, several specific degree programs or majors have additional requirements (see current Undergraduate Catalog). Although several pre- programs are housed in the college, most are housed in the University Advising Center (see Pre-program section).
